Teresa Adamo and Jennifer Williams-Cordova, children's book authors with a knack for capturing the essence of these moments. It's a conversation that's sure to inspire, listen now to Unleashing Imagination and Compassion: How a Children's Book Helps to Promote Pet Adoption. Their tales, born from the companionship of pets like Indy, weave a tapestry of creativity and community spirit that finds a home in the hearts of families far and wide. With a shared hope to spark even one more act of kindness, such as fostering or adopting a furry companion, this episode is a heartfelt reminder of the love and life lessons our pets bestow upon us.
During this episode, Teresa, Jennifer, and I all reflect on the impact stories can have on advocating for shelter animals and responsible pet ownership and how they use stories to inspire others to adopt shelter pets. The Indy, Oh Indy adventure series kicked off with, Wandering the Streets of Bakersfield, an adorable children’s book that is not only a loving tribute to a sweet shelter dog named “Indy,” it’s also a loving tribute to the community of Bakersfield itself. The echo of a child naming their new four-legged friend after a beloved character is a testament to the reach and heart of Teresa and Jennifer's work. Their next adventure book, Indy, Oh Indy: Learning the Bakersfield Sound Book Cover, takes you on a adventure as friends explore the unique musical style founded in Bakersfield, and Kern County, California, during the 1950s.

Grounds and Hounds Adorable Christmas Mugs Make Great Gifts for Pet Parents
I learned about Grounds and Hounds through social media. I've been following the account Make Life Happen on Instagram, which documents the journey of two rescue dogs, Poundcake and Milkshake. Their devoted pet parents, James and Leah, share their daily lives with the pups, who also happen to be deaf. I've been so inspired by how honest they are about the hesitancy they had before first adopting Poundcake and how much they have learned about the power of pet adoption, adopting differently abled pets, and sharing stories on social. They share videos of both dogs joining their family, training them with sign language, and illustrating the power of time, commitment and love. Mike and Leah also support animal rescue organizations by holding fundraising online and through apparel they sell with beautiful drawings of Poundcake and Milkshake.
